I haven't tried this so who knows if it actually works, but this is security software for Windows that uses your webcam to recognize faces for people to log in to their accounts on the PC.

Unlike USB2, the Firewire spec allows devices to have full DMA access. By impersonating the appropriate device, a PC can essentially obtain full read/write access to another machine's RAM, just by connecting the two machines with a Firewire cable. Adding to the recent discussion about the insecurities of physical access and Princeton's cold-boot RAM dump demonstration, Adam Boileau released a Linux Firewire utility that will give you immediate Administrator to an XP machine.

Scientists at IBM are conducting research into arranging carbon nanotubes--strands of carbon atoms that can conduct electricity--into arrays with DNA molecules. Once the nanotube array is meticulously constructed, the laboratory-generated DNA molecules could be removed, leaving an orderly grid of nanotubes. The nanotube grid, conceivably, could function as a data storage device or perform calculations.

The Find And Replace Text utility is a handy little command-line tool to have if you're a Windows user. It can function as a simple grep-like utility for quickly searching through whole directories of files, and you can also use it to perform mass search and replace operations on a file or group of files.

The US Transportation Safety Administration (TSA), acting at the behest of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is now restricting the amount and storage of lithium batteries brought onto an aircraft. The FAA fears that loose batteries in checked luggage could short circuit and start a fire, so they basically forbid people to check baggage containing batteries. But there's more to it, as you'll see.

New software analyzes a single picture of a person's face and generates views from other angles. Might be useful to match people from security camera photos from various angles and lighting conditions.
